Sweater Design

Class Description

Think you’re not ready to design your own sweater? Think again! Sarah will hold your hand through every step of designing a simple sweater to fit YOU: gauge, measurements, schematics, and shaping, to name a few. We’ll make a completely seamless pullover with set-in sleeves and either a scoop or a v-neck. After completing this class, you should be able to design a variety of sweaters or to make changes to existing patterns.

Five 2-hour sessions will cover:

  • project planning, swatching, and getting started
  • armhole shaping
  • neck shaping
  • joining shoulders and working neckband
  • sleeves

(Five 2-hour sessions)

Supplies needed

Yarn (to be determined at first session, but please bring any yarns you are thinking about using); needles (appropriate for the yarn chosen); flexible measuring tape; darning needle; stitch markers; stitch holders; coilless safety pins; scissors; calculator; pen or pencil. Also, please bring in one or more shirts or sweaters that fit you well (we’re looking for any or all of the following: something that fits you nicely across the shoulders and/or around the body, a pleasing neckline, a comfortable sleeve length and/or body length – you will use the measurements from these samples as a starting point for the pattern for your sweater).
